who is a martyr 

In  Shakuntala's  life ,there was a  important incident happened 

 before twenty years.i.e., august 1942. whenever i think that i am feeling sweet  sense ,in my  heart  like a fragrance in a incense stick. Her  sacrifice  , no one   can't forget  who is having a kind heart. But in Shakuntala's life one another incident also happened.

when  i compared both the incidents i cannot come to a conclusion 

which is most  sacrifice . Both incidents ,incense  fragrance  which is most sensitive ,tell me ,now i am narrating a story of Shakuntala.

       Shakuntala was studying    B.A., in a college . Her  father  was a poor  man. but he sold his property,what he had for his daughter's education. There is no separate college for women. So she was studying in a co-education college.

    shakuntala's beauty is  unique one. Big eyes,long nose ,thick eye brow ,she is like a picture drawn by a expert artists.one who saw her ,never  went without seeing her again. No one forgot her who saw him once. BUT  she never looked anyone to attract  .she is a disciplined  woman. SHE was   a honest ,good behavior  and straight  forward woman. She is like a  modern woman what poet Bhrathi told. Poet Bharathi told ,shy and fear only for dogs,not for a  modern indian woman. Shakuntala followed  Bharati.

But  she felt shy before  Rajaraman   a student of the same college.
She could not look him direct. She was in dilemma to talk  with him. oh! this means love!?

  Rajaraman is a college union leader .His speech  in college function  were very impressive.His ppearance is ver attractive. He is a wise man.His  family also very rich.

   In those days every young man's heart was overflew with patriotism. Ever youth wanted to get freedom. Rajaram  SPOKE WAS VERY impressive . He spoke-- we will sacrify every thing for our freedom,health ,wealth ,life and soul. If shakuntala was there ,his speech shows special angry . fire hits there.His way of speech is in out of control. perhaps His courageous  speech might be  attract her.It is one of a reasons made shakuntala shy.

 one day rajaram told -- shakuntala! Today  he got a permisson from his  parents that he should marry a girl whom he liked  although he was a poor girl. on hearing this Shakuntala face beccome reddish due to shy.He was  enjoying the bowed reddish face of Shakuntala. 

  Mahatma Gandhi was arrested. Again crusade  started.Simple man  
Gandhi  shined like a long tested gold. now he was in jail.Military was  in force. the freedom fighters were shot like a purrical.

where ever  the freedom fighters gathered shooting ,lathi charge ,flogging. property of freedom fighters also seized. It was not a political struggle. It  was a struggle for country's freedom.

     on the entrance of college a huge students crowed gathered. 
Police warned don't stop the students who were attending college.
Shakuntala stood before the gate and encouraged the student to partcipate in the struggle. the crowed was in out of control. Rajaram stood on the compound wall and shouted that BRITISH killed freedom fighters from kashmir to kanyakumaari. . we never allow the foreign rule . we would fight and die .

  mr. arunachalam newly transferred police inspector came with hundreds of police. on seeing police students  got more angry. some of them want to attend the college. Shakuntala stopped them. she shouted are you really gents. wear my bangles. tomorrow come to college  wearing sarees. now feared students also inspired  by Shakuntala. rajaram also jumped down .all students  are  in rage.

the inspector warned  shakuntala. she did not listen  him. arunchalam got angry . but  he saw the beauty of her and her youth. she got a order to shoot. but he did't .

but he did not want to neglect  from duty.He want to protect law and order.He thought a young lady changed the situation. He thought once about their  parents ,relatives ,friends and emotional youths.the parents   have faith on them for their future . He wants to give firing order. but he changed it as  a laththi charge.



the  situation  became worst. If the students  joined  with the  crowed it it should create a  difficult for police. the young officer showed softcorner in the begining  when he saw   hewas unable to control ,he orderd for lati charge. shakuntal saved rajaram and she got  the beat from arunachalam. the angry officer when heard a lady voice ,he saw  that  shakuntala  was  injured . Her forehead got deep cut.He searched Rajaraman ,but he  was  not there. He controlled the crowed and law and  order. Inspectors  happines was not longer . He  worried for Shakuntala.

  Shakuntala  was admitted  in the government  hospital.she was in bed.  her parents were sitting near her and shedding tears.
Her one side of his head covered with bandage. Her beautiful face now became ugly in one side.she got many injuries .

  Her mother scolded the inspector who mercilessly spoiled  her beautiful face of her daughter. she shouted ,I was very happy on seeing  my daughters beautiful face. Sinner ,inspector!His father also too much worried about the ugly face of her daughter. It is difficult to arrange a marriage for a beautiful girl. who should marry this ugly face.This thought made them sad.

If he shot and killed  her better. Now he made us to cry life long  leaving her with life.  .when her father Got angry she scolded her daughter , sometimes inspector and sometimes Mahatma Gandhi.
    after treatment when bondage removed ,a permanent scar on her face.A beautiful lotus face now found very ugly.what a pity?
  
  parents did not know the love affairs of Rajaraman and Shakuntala. Shakuntala's college mates came to see her.they thought Rajaraman was one of his college mate. Day by day their hope was changed hopeless about the marriage of her daughter.

 shakuntala   when noticed her parents were worrying about her marriage , she told them don't worry about my marriage. They told if we were rich  anyone ready to marry her for money .what will happen now .

 Her mother told,we spent money for her education. instead of her education ,we saved the money ,it would help her marriage.
when shakuntala heard this  she can't bear her parrents worry.

Shakuntala one day said - don't worry an educated ,good contact person would marry her  ,not for beauty but for her good condut.

  when they knew about rajaraman they were happy. they told rajaram's family would agree .

 Shakuntala was waited for Rajaram. But when she her face on mirror she did not like her own face.   rajaram forgot her and married another woman.
  Five year passed. she was in such a position , she could not marry or she  could not get a job. Her ugly face was a obstacle to go  any where.

  she stood before Gandhi picture.He alone knew the value of Shakuntala's scar. if she met Gandhi ,he would appreciate her.India got freedom.
That day when shakuntala was standing before Gandhiji's picture ,a car stopped in front of her house.A strong beautiful man come down from the car. his mustach was thick and black.

shakuntala and her parents unable to know him . Why he is coming.?

that man introduced himself that he was  a inspector ,who was working here before five years.on hearing this shakuntala's father got angry and her mother ready to attack on her.
 how much possible they scolded him. they asked why did he left her  alive. did you not ashme/?why  did you come ? she her face.

 Arunachalm   did not speak any thing. He was in silence.then he said ,--"i thought  that i have done my duty.i came here to talk another  new matter,not old one.

 Her mother spoke with hate --what was there to talk with him.?

He said ,'when their daughter was in hospital he visited there and daily heard the bitter words about him.i never felt about their bitter words. He worried only about her health condition.
shakuntala ,Watched his face secretly.His eyes were filled with tears. He said ,if she married rajaraman  then only he felt worry.

why ? the parents asked.

i would said . i came to express the same.then he think for some seconds.
Then said , when i knew marriage not done ,immediately i wanted to come here. but shakuntala may be hate me.She may thought  there is great enmity between patriotism and duty mindedness.

i am a patriot  so i controlled and  managed  the struggle  without shooting any one.

shakuntala came out  and told ,not a struggle  ,it is a freedom fight.

forgive me . are you here.?

When he saw shakuntala ,shakuntala felt that his look was happy 

not with sympathy.first time shakuntala watched a face which was happy on  seeing her.

Then arunachalam  told  feeling shy --i am a  bachelor . if they agree ,he ready to  marry shakuntala. 

on hearing this they stunned. they unable to believe  .
After marriage one day   arunachalam's tears fall on the scar of forhead.shakuntala  lost few seconds herself.

he asked,  that day  did  she  fell  middle to save him?

She said , that day she had no conscious  , her thoughts were only about freedom. she came in middle to save the country.she was ready to die for her country.

He told ,--really she is a martyr. 

she told --he is a martyr ,who married a ugly woman.

he said - she was very beauty for him not only in appearance and also by brave and kind heart. it is enough that she alone beauty for him.

 now you readers  say ,

who is beauty ?shakuntala who fought for freedom  or arunachalam who married shakuntala for her good character  although she was in ugly face.  whose sacrifice is great.
